25.11.2013 Jersey HSSD breast cancer screening team receive hospital’s patient safety award
ISLE News November 5, 2013:
Excellence across the Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) has been rewarded at the department’s Quality Improvement Awards. Established in 1993, the Quality Improvement Awards are held by HSSD to promote, recognise and reward innovation in practice.
After nine teams of staff from across HSSD made presentations to the judging panel, the winners in three different categories have been announced.
The winning team in category patient safety was the breast screening project. The team were successful in raising the number of eligible women being screened from 67% to 73% between 2010 and 2012, as well as achieving a substantial cut in the number of wasted appointments. This was achieved through the identification and implementation of new technology and an effective marketing campaign, resulting in a commendation for high quality service from the UK South West Breast Screening Quality Assurance Team.
“I’m delighted to see another impressive line-up for this year’s awards event,” said the Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Anne Pryke, who chaired the judging panel. “Some really innovative changes have been introduced across the department – these are making a real difference and it is fitting that the teams at the forefront of this work should have their efforts highlighted and rewarded.”
The breast screening programme was implemented in 2011 on Commit; Screening product.
